Today I dragged myself out of bed at 5:30. Not quite true, Kaylee dragged us both out of bed at the crack of dawn. You know babies, they think sleep is for the weak. It was OK though, I had a 17 mile run planned anyway. By about 6:30, I was out of the house and pounding the pavement. Kaylee and Daddy stayed home (preferring to read and play with toys). Two hours and 25 minutes later I finished.
In previous posts I've nonchalantly mentioned that I might run a marathon. I guess I'm not really being nonchalant in the training. I've scheduled all my long runs from now until the Bay State Marathon on Google calendar so that both Nick and I know when I have a planned long run (this being essential with a baby). I can do much of my running with Kaylee, but I don't feel right running much longer than an hour with her. As a result, anything longer needs to be planned.
After today's 17 miler, I'm starting to feel confident that I'll be able to finish the marathon. My stretch goal would be to qualify for Boston, but like I said that's a stretch. To qualify in my age group I'll have to run the distance in 3 hours and 40 minutes (that's 8:23 per mile pace). But it's hard to run any speed workouts with Kaylee. I usually do speed work on the row machine on Wednesdays night after she goes to bed, but it doesn't always work out for me.
Shhh...Huddle in close now...if I don't qualify this year I could always try again next year, but don't tell Nick. Marathon talk makes him nervous.
Trying to have fun on Tuesdays

Being back at work full-time can be difficult. I'm still working from home
on Tuesdays though, and since I often wind up working more than eight hours

How soon is the Baystate Marathon? 17 miles is one long run!! hopefully reading this will inspire us to run a bit more, but it's just so hot here in the summertime! What kind of jogging stroller do you use w/ Kaylee & does she like the rides? Good luck with all your training & I think running Boston would be AWESOME.
Good for you! We know that your feeling good when you are running/planning to run. When you are not running or planning a new running event, we worry. You must be doing/holding your own pretty well if the words next year were even considered in your thoughts. I think it's wonderful that Kaylee will run for an hour with you. Maybe one day she'll be by your side...
The Bay State Marathon is Sunday October 19! I know, it's sounds like I have plenty time to train, but most of the training schedules I've seen require 4-6 months of training. I've also picked a training schedule that is specifically designed to help prevent injuries. Many schedules want you running a long run every week, but this Jeff Galloway fellow suggests only running a long run every other to every third week to help prevent injuries.
Oh yeah, you also asked about the jogging stroller. We have an Iron Man Bob running stroller and it's awesome! It's really only meant to run with though. The real heavy duty running strollers have a fixed front wheel for straight tracking, but that means you have to sort of lift the front wheel off the ground to turn. I think I would find that irritating if I brought it to the mall, but it's really really great to run with. And Kaylee never makes a peep while I'm running. Usually she just watches everything for a few miles, and then she falls asleep. She'd probably be willing to sit in the stroller longer than an hour, but I'd feel bad. (Especially now that she loves to toddle and scoot around.)
