Baby Emily is Home!

We have a new baby! We brought Emily home on Thursday. She was 7 pounds 4 ounces and 19.5 inches long.

The birth didn't go quite as expected. The short version is my water broke before labor started. After 12 hours, my labor still wasn't well established and I was only 2 cm dilated. I was given pitocin to jump start labor, which it did. A little over 2 hours after they started the pitocin, Emily was born. Very intense...but on the plus side I did manage to have an epidural free VBAC, which probably turned out for the best as Emily was having some heart decelerations during the labor indicating some distress. As it turned out, she had a knot in her cord. The staff said she must have swam through it during the first trimester. Crazy. But she came out screaming and healthy, so yay us!

Anyway, you can a few pictures below. Enjoy!

Intense for sure, but you took that bull by the horns, dug your heels in and bravely got to the business at hand. Typical Katie! You amazed all of the hospital staff during your delivery. Nick and I are harder to impress because we know you too well. However, I think that Nick would agree with me when I say that you are the bomb! Living strong agrees with you. Love you.
