Happy Halloween!

Here's our little bumble bee. Doesn't she look positively vicious? I thought so.
Every year our work holds a monster bash for the tiny tykes. The little ghouls can go office-to-office trick-or-treating, and then head over to the cafeteria for more treats and activities. It's a sweet setup. Kaylee loves it! They take Polaroid pictures, have a setup with a parachute and tons of little balls (sounds odd, but it's very cool), give out sheets of stickers (a favorite of Kaylee's), and give out these blinking lights that were all the rage with the little ones. Kaylee told me at least three times the next day that she "liked the Halloween party A LOT."I have yet to find candy that doesn't have soy bean oil or soy lecithin, so with Kaylee's FPIES we need to steer clear of the whole candy deal and therefore trick-or-treating. We meandered around the offices in my department anyway though. Co-workers are always asking about her, so I figured this would give them an opportunity to see how big she's gotten. It was crazy though. People really wanted to give her stuff. I tried to explain that we were just walking around to say hello, but still, she wound up with an apple (that she's eating in the photo), a pad of sticky notes, a Halloween pencil, and a toy off of a co-workers desk.
The no candy deal makes me feel a little bad. Not that Kaylee really gets it at the ripe old age of two. At this point, she doesn't know that she's missing anything. Still, I feel bad. So we made some sugar cookies together. Between you and me they were only mediocre. I try to find healthy recipes. Last year I made whole wheat sugar cookies that actually turned out pretty well. This time around I tried a similar whole wheat recipe that called for oil rather than butter. I knew it was a gamble. When it comes to baked goods, butter over oil yields the tasty results one is usually looking for from baked goods. I gave it a shot anyway, and they're okay. Kaylee loves them, so it's all good, but if I were to bake them again for the holidays I'll go back to using butter.I'm not sure what we're doing today for the actual day of Halloween. I'd like to do something fun for Kaylee. We'll let you know!

Great pics! My son refuses to dress up. He wants to be "Petru". But, my husband and I don't need extra encouragement and will dress up. I completely agree that kids at age 2 have no idea about candy. My son got a ton at that age, and he played with it rather than eat it. Not now, though, so beware! Have fun!!!
