Election Day

Tuesdays are generally hectic in our household. Both Nick and I go to work and Kaylee has a play date at Grandma and Grandpa's. Needless to say leaving the house in the morning is quite a process. Honestly, by the number of bags we leave with you'd think we weren't coming back. Nick has a laptop and gym bag. I have a laptop and gym bag. And Kaylee has several bags of her own. Today was a little more hectic than usual because we wanted to vote before going to work, which basically meant leaving the house earlier.

The plan was to leave 20 minutes earlier and just take Kaylee to vote with us, and then go about our routine as normal. Dutifully, Nick loaded up the car with a boatload of baggage, while I started strapping Kaylee into her car seat. The next logical step of course was to place the key into the ignition and start the car, but in our case the car didn't start. Doh! Quick, reload the other car! Alright, now the blood pressure's up...Why won't the car start? When will we have time to figure out what's going on? And the questions go on and on.

Off we go to the voting place, and oh my, where do we park? The place was packed! We parked across the way, I put Kaylee in her little baby backpack carrier, and we started hiking across the street through another parking lot until we finally reached the destination to wait in line for our turn vote (which was about 30 minutes later). Way too much excitement for me in the morning!

Actually, I'm just being overly dramatic. The car not starting was a little stressful, but we weren't really too shocked that we had to wait a little bit to vote. The morning time seems to be popular. The only downside was getting to work a little later than normal, which meant we had to stay a little later. But we voted! As for the car, well we'll have to wait until tomorrow to figure out that anomaly. The hypothesis right now is a dead battery. While Nick was on travel, I came home one day and found the trunk was up. I must have accidentally pressed the trunk button on the key chain and not noticed until later. There are lights in there, so it's possible the battery was drained. Nick is a little frustrated since older cars behave simply and it's obvious when the battery is dead, but these newfangled electronic cars do weird things. We'll let you know when we figure it all out!

It was wonderful to vote in Maine. No lines, no waiting, and available parking. The women who checked us in to vote lived about 1/4 mile away from us and were thrilled to meet the new people on Loon Dr. We also got the scoop about the other Loon Dr. people who voted before us. It was also the first time that I didn't have people tossing signs into my face before I went into vote. It was a wonderful day...

That sounds great! Our wait really wasn't bad though. And, of course, we had lots of oooohhs and aaahhhhs over Kaylee in her little baby backpack, which made the experience even more interesting. Man she gets sooo much attention!
