Dr. Horrible: It's all about the laugh

Have you ever wondered what we do besides take pictures of Kaylee? Well, to be fair we work too, but that's not what I meant. Occasionally we find really cool stuff on the Internet like Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

OK, so let's take a few steps back. Have you ever heard of Joss Whedon? Maybe? Well, he wrote and directed the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which sounds like the stuff of cheese but it wasn't. It was awesome! Buffy has become a cult classic. As a side note, Nick introduced me to Buffy before we started dating. It came up in conversation at work. I was skeptical. One night I was flipping stations and happened upon a re-run. I wasn't impressed. It was this awful episode where Buffy's mom is dating a robot and she doesn't know it. Ugh, the worst kind of cheesy soap opera! Of course I just had to razz Nick the next day. He was like "oh no, not the robot episode, seriously that's the worst one." And I was all "yeah, yeah." (This was our way of flirting.) But he was right, the rest of the shows were much better. Now I'm a huge fan.

Joss also created Firefly, which is my favorite show of all time. Cowboys in space. (How do you like that for a short description.) Unfortunately, Firefly was cancelled in the first season. Boo. Apparently my taste in TV doesn't fit with the norms. Double sigh. With Bufffy and Firefly gone, we don't watch much TV.

Alright, hang in there, we're almost to the point. Last year during the writer's strike Joss and some others were bored. In comes Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog. Neil Patrick Harris (from the sitcom How I met your Mother) stars as Dr. Horrible. Nathan Fillion (from Firefly) stars as Captain Hammer. Captain Hammer is Dr. Horrible's nemesis. The whole premise of the musical (yes it's a musical) is that Dr. Horrible is aspiring to be a super villain who is always being foiled by Captain Hammer. And to make things sticky he falls in love. It's hilarious! Here's a little taste of Dr. Horrible and his view on the importance of an evil laugh:

"A lot of guys ignore the laugh, and that's about standards. I mean, if you're gonna get into the Evil League of Evil, you have to have a memorable laugh. What, do you think Bad Horse didn't work on his whinny? His terrible death-whinny?"

We definitely recommend watching it. Just be warned, it's about 45 minutes long, but you can watch it in three separate parts.
