Admittedly, Kaylee looks a little grumpy in this picture, but she really wasn't. Maybe she was wondering what daddy was doing with his phone. But that's off topic, I've been thinking about posting weekly training updates. Wondering why? Isn't my running obsession and training banter riveting? No? Maybe a little amusing? Well, anyway, I'm hugely interested in that all that running "stuff" so I want to share my obsession with you! Also, I'm more likely to stay motivated if I actually share my goals.Current training is focused on a 5K taking place at the end of April. And oh, can I just tell you how badly I want to break 21 minutes? Really badly! Possibly a stretch given that my training style is wildly different from the norm. Now your wondering how exactly I train, right? Don't worry, nothing crazy. I've just come to realize that my body can handle only so much actual running, and even less hard running. As a result, I've created my own training style. Basically I run three or four days a week relatively easy, and do two hard workouts a week on the row machine. Seriously, any running coach will tell you this is a ridiculous training regimen. My old coach would say something like, "you practice running fast by running, not rowing" (said in a deep husky voice). True, but running too much breaks me, so that's where I'm at. And my row machine workouts are really hard, like sorta feel nauseous afterward hard. That must count for something, maybe?
Here's where I share last week's training:
Monday: Off
Tuesday: 5 mile run in 37:10
Wednesday: 3 x 1600 meters rowing at 6:20 pace + 60 minutes easy on the bike
Thursday: 7 mile run in 66 minutes (pushing the munchkin around)
Friday: Off
Saturday: 8 x 400 meters rowing at 90 second pace + 60 minutes easy on the bike
Sunday: 7 mile run in 69 minutes (once again with the munchkin)
Oh, just in case you're worried the pretty dresses series returns tomorrow with Kaylee in a pretty green dress!
