Tuesday's Training Update

This week I even have a race report! My mom and I ran a 5K this past Sunday. And let me tell you it was scorching hot! Okay, not really. It was right around 80 degrees and sunny when we ran, which I realize isn't hot for some parts of the country but here in New England 80 degrees in April is hot! Blah, not the best running weather, but run we did. I ran 21:49. Obviously, I didn't break 21 minutes like I wanted to. I'm a little disappointed, but I'm trying to stay focused. I have a 10K this coming Sunday and my goal is to run 44:30. I'll let you know how it goes!

Although it was hot, my mom still ran a PR. Sort of, she has actually run longer distances faster, but just not in a race. This was only her second 5K ever and she finished second in her age division! Sweet, right? She'll also be running that 10K next week, so we're both hoping for some cooler weather!

So how's my training going? I don't know. I haven't decided. Last week almost all of my training was biking and rowing, which happened for two reasons really. One, the gym at work was closed. If I can't run at work that means I have to exercise after Kaylee goes to bed on Tuesday and Wednesday. I don't run in the dark. It's one of my wacky rules. (Nick says I have all kinds of weird rules, though he agrees with the not running in the dark thing.) And second, I had run a lot the week before and thought that giving my legs a running rest might be good before the 5K. But I'm not really sure it helped. This week I'll be aiming for about 30 miles, which will include a long run, tempo run, and race.

Here's where I share last week's training:

Monday: 60 minute bike
Tuesday: 2 X 1600 meter row at 6:13 pace + 60 minute bike
Wednesday: 60 minute bike
Thursday: 8 X 400 meter row at 1:28 pace + 40 minute bike
Friday: 5 miles run at 10:00 pace + 3 mile walk
Saturday: Off
Sunday: 5K race 21:49 (7:01 pace)
