Tuesday's Training Update: A Week Gone Awry

The stars aligned against me last week, and threw a big old wrench into my perfectly laid training schedule. Don't worry, nothing serious, just minor schedule issues. My work schedule was altered slightly, and work itself was a bit busier than usual. Throw in a side of exhausted runner and some rain, and voila you have a training plan gone awry. This is why my training schedule is so long...I need to compensate for a few crazy weeks. Next week will be better. I promise!

The week wasn't a complete bust though. I did get in a great 5K row completed in 19:40, which might be my fastest 5K row (not run). I also managed to get in an 8.6 mile run on Saturday that I've decided to call a tempo run. The pace was only 8:01, but I ran with the running stroller. Definitely the fastest I've ever run with the stroller. Because I usually only run easy with the stroller, I've never bothered to figure out if there's some sort of conversion to estimate what pace one might have run without a stroller. A cursory Internet search yielded pretty much nothing on the topic. I did stumble upon a Runner's World article discussing a fellow by the name of Michael Wardian, who holds world record marathon time for running with a stroller. His PR without a stroller is approximately 48 seconds per mile faster than his record stroller time. That's probably the best estimate I'll find (if someone out there has a better method I'd love to hear about it)! Using that approximation, I would have run 7:13 pace for the 8.6 miler. I still prefer to run my tempo runs without a stroller, but I was desperate. And I didn't really plan to run hard, it just happened.

Oh, side note, this is NKK's 100th post!

Here's where I share last week's training:
Monday: Off
Tuesday: 5K row in 19:40
Wednesday: 7.25 mile run (forgot my watch at work so no pace)
Thursday: Off
Friday: 92 minute bike
Saturday: 8.6 mile run 8:01 pace
Sunday: Off

It's so tough when life gets in the way of training. I, too, had to make some adjustments last week. Nonetheless, you managed some really quality workouts! Looking forward to next week's update - hopefully a less crazy week for you:) Ana-Maria
