Tuesday's Training Update: Back on Track

In theory, last week's training went fairly well. I did a great row workout where I rowed two 5Ks within one second of each other. I felt good too. Then Tuesday came and I just felt dead; next came Wednesday and although I managed a great tempo run again I felt miserably tired. Weather wise, Thursday looked like the best day for my long run. Ugh. 15.1 miles at 75 degrees and a ridiculous humidity level. Honestly 75 degrees just shouldn't feel that bad to run in, but the air was thick with water. And the sky looked ominous, like it could open up at any second, which just made me feel stressed the whole time. Did I mention I was running with the stroller? Usually rain doesn't bother me, I'm not made of sugar after all, but with the stroller it stresses me out. Only when there was about a mile left did I start to relax.

Basically the actual training last week was solid, but I didn't have much fun and was totally spent. The best day was Saturday, when my parents came over to do a 7 miler with me and the tiny tyke. I blame the tiredness on lack of sleep. Last week, Kaylee was waking up at 4:00 am and having some trouble going to sleep. I thought maybe she was getting a few of her last molars in, and she was. Her last set of bottom molars are out now, and she's back to waking up at 5:15. Yay. For whatever reason, I was also having trouble getting to sleep. I'm usually asleep around 10:00, but wasn't getting to sleep until 12:00. Not for lack of trying. I was in bed ready to sleep, but sleep wouldn't come. The last few days have been better. Hopefully next week's training will solid and fun.

Here's where I share last week's training:
Monday: 2 x 5000 meter row at 6:30 pace with 10 minute stationary bike recovery between intervals.
Tuesday: 5 mile run at 8:24 pace
Wednesday: 4 mile tempo run at 6:46 pace
Thursday: 15.1 mile run at 9:16 pace
Friday: 60 minutes on stationary bike
Saturday: 7.25 mile run at 9:24 pace
Sunday: Off

That's an awesome week! I am so impressed with your tempo pace. How do you figure out your paces for the long run and tempo? Or you go by feel? Hope this week both you and Kaylee will get the sleep you need. Ana-Maria

I use McMilan's calculator to figure out what paces I should be running and try not to run any slower. I have several courses mapped out, know where the mile markers are, and use my stop watch to calculate actual pace. My tempo pace is slightly faster than the calculator suggests and my long run is skirting the edge of being slightly slower. The long run is a little hard though, because I'm running with the stroller.
