Drumlin Farm

Donkeys, sheep, and cows oh my! Not just typical boring sheep either, but little exuberant skipping sheep! Sunday we took advantage of the nice weather and opted to visit Drumlin farm in Lincoln. We had narrowed our choices down to Drumlin or the Harvard Museum of Natural History. Since we recently visited the museum and we've never been to the farm, a trip to see barnyard animals sounded intriguing (at least to Kaylee). And coincidentally, allowed Nick the opportunity to make good use of our newer zoom lens. The farm was quite nice, and after three hours of wandering the premises there was still much of the area left unexplored.

We did see most of barnyard portion. Kaylee's favorite was the donkey, to which she kept saying "He's big! He's big! He's eating!" Showing no fear at all, she ran up to the gate and tried to pet him. Although she seemed sure the donkey was a friendly sort, we were less certain and explained that it was best to keep our hands outside of the gate. The sheep were also a big hit. Many of them were younger, energetic, and as a result fun to watch. Besides the donkey and sheep, there were pigs, deer, owls, red tailed hawks, goats, and cows.

I noted that one of the owls seemed particularly sassy. To which Nick replied, "Apparently he was blinded in his right eye after being hit by car. And his rescuers noted that he stunk of skunk." Despite his tainted past (and handicap), he was flying around his habitat like a trooper. And making good use of his swing and house (where we later saw him snoozing with one eye open).
